Description

Alright, where we start is where it begins so . Here we are.

As some may know already I'm doing alittle collection of 'The 50's' so here is the next image that is a HUGE part of the 50's and 60's .

Elvis Presley
As they called him "The King of Rock 'N' Roll"
RIP: 1935-1977
I think I'll dedicate this drawing to man himself also :). Not that I'm a big fan. ;)

Well I hope you all enjoy this drawing, I think I have actually reached a goal with this one- to do with hair. I've always had trouble with hair, but this time around I think I quite got just an inch of realistic likeness to the hair .

Drawn with:
All my pencils.
Elvis croped
Some may rather this version of this same picture.

Thank you ;)

Yet another fine work of pencilling, Rae. As mentioned, the eyes look kinda uneven. Other than that it's good. You got my +9

the king!! great to see a portrait with so much likeness. there are some issues as mentioned, mostly it's his famous chin that should be bigger compared to the other features, but otherwise it's very easy to see it's him :)

His left eye seems to be completely off if you look close and I think you should be more accurate with his skin - he looks dirty :)
But it express good his character. I prefer the upper cropping. Nice portrait

looks just like him! I dont think the eye is completely off just needs to be a little bigger. Good stuff V

Thank you very much Andy ;)
and everybody who else commented, to do with the eyes, I'm not too sure whether the eyes are off, but you must know that I did take a photo of this artwork so?. But Andy would have to be right, even I saw that when I was drawing it but everyone should know what I'm like. I'm not fixing it;). Everyone will just have to suffer with Elvis having a deformed face ;).

And I agree with Killadore - maybe the chin could have been improved.
Thanks Fluido for the comment on the hair.

THANKS TO EVERYONE!
Group hug??

Despite the flaws, one can easilly see that this is Elvis. That means you succeeded. :) Now I don't know his exact traits, and I haven't seen the reference, but assuming that he has a fairly normal fave, I can point out this:
  • His right eye (furthest away from us) is much more larger than the other.
  • If you draw a straight line from his forehead and down, you'll see that it 'sticks out' of the head, compared to the chin. In other words; his right eyebrow and the forehead around it should be pulled more back.
BUT there are many good things here! The ear is drawn very well! And they are supposed to be difficult (I think so...)! But you forgot to draw the opening in it... :p Or maybe it didn't show in the reference image?
Good shadows on the nose tip! Makes it look like skin. Good work with the area around the mouth, too. And last, but not least: the hair! Well done! It's a bit stiff here and there, and the hair strands on the top could have been thinner, but still: it looks ery good! The shine in it is excellent. Good pencilwork!

Thank you for your constructive as they call it :p. Comment Jane, it has helped;).

And yes I just noticed that about the ear, but I think what I done wrong there was not adding the hair that would have gone over the area of the opening.. *slaps self.*
Hmm. anyway... I so need to go to bed..

hi!
in addition to all that had been said up there, i like this one because it seems that you drew it thinking in the estructure of the face (i mean, the bones underneath the flesh, note the cheek bone, and the forehead), this detail has a lot to do with the likeness, since everyone of us has a slighty different structure of cranium, and not only the features of the face gives character (althoug the features in your drawing are all excellent!)
most of us tend to forget this, and end up with portraits that are always the same type, or shading them the same way forever
but, not your case,
im happy for that, and in the next;
give your best!

Hey thanks so much Huntybounter!.
Made my day :).
I'm sure I will give my best in the next - atleast try. I tend to try and improve each artwork, which some people recognise.

Your drawings are leaping 100 paces each time towards the "perfect" mark!
I love the resemblance here! I do agree with everyone above about the anatomy but I still think this is quite a successful drawing since I can see straight away that this is elvis himself!
Youre gonna get the hang of all that anatomy jazz soon, dont worry!
I cant wait to see your next drawing; theyre getting better and better ;)

i agree with most of the peeps here about anatomy. its just perspective thats off. imagine the whole face as a cube the farthest side becomes smaller so as the elements like the eyes. your darkest tone is just too dark for the whole drawing. consider a range of tones like 1-5. 1 being the lightest and 5 being the darkest. then balance your tones. moreover, for a rendered work, i would avoid to put the ELVIS in the work, it just messes up your drawing. you want people to focus on your pencil skills, not on the font that you added up in your computer. other than that, im really proud of you, this is really good for your age. i hope this helps. i started at your age too and people here would help you! good job!

Nice work Rae and thanks for the close-up. Not being a drawer or painter, I can't be too specific on things here. I like your shading technique and all the wonderful details. The eyes don't seem quite right. His left eye doesn't seem deep enough or is slightly out of position ... but didn't Elvis have crooked eyes anyway??? His cheek highlights seem to move to far down his face toward his nose. Love his lips and chin.

PS ... I knew this was Elvis immediately from the thumbnail so as Jane has said ... you have succeeded!

Great job!

Michelle
