Description
"Goodbye Norma Jean;Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself. While those around you crawled."
[ Elton John - Candle In The Wind [Goodbye Norma Jean]].
This is another 50's drawing which I'm adding to the small collection I currently have with James Dean. I do know there are some problems with my Marilyn but there is always problems with my drawings
Drawn With:
HB, 2H, B, 2B
Thank you for looking
Raechel B.
PS: If you are interested I also done a Colour version which I coloured in PaintShopPro just for the fun of it. It's not that good, but I thought I might share

What does everyone mean by angular? as in too square (whatever shape you were considering)

So, keep it up!
The color version looks more impressive in my opinion.

Good use of variation in the gray tones! The similarity of the original woman is also there, although there are something harsh about her face that doesn't look quite right.
Half the part of her upper lip is higher up than the other, one of the eyes is darker than the other. Her hair could need somemore work too, some more shading perhaps, as it is very unshaded at the top. If you could draw the top hair like you did on the right curls, it would look much better.
Colour version: usually I'd say that you should use a different colour for the darker parts of the drawing, maybe make the skin pink more red/purple, or add some blue in it. That will add more depth to the figure. But for this particular drawing I think the basic colouring is enough, as it reminds me of the old black and white pictures and movies that has been put colour on in later years.
Good luck with your future additions to the 50's drawings!

The coloured version is only meant to look the way it's presented for abit of fun in colouring. I also intended with that flat white bit up the top of her hair aswell. It may look bad to most but I don't really mind it. And yes the nose is alittle off but I couldn't help that when I was finished.
I mainly know most of the problems but without looking at a picture of her, I like it's appearance. Although much unlike her yet so alike at the same time.
Thank you Jane for commenting on both works, Greyscale and Colour.
I hope to do another soon, when I can - as of school studies hehe.
Most likely to do a n Elvis Presley one. Although not exactly fan, well I'm not a fan of Marilyn or James but I tended to draw them because I liked their style. Either Elvis or Frank Sinatra. Which I actually do like Frank songs so.

I like this a lot. She looks so hard and damaged in this drawing ... as if she was in pain. And we know she was. I like the sharp and hard angular look of her face. In some way it depicts the hard life she has lead.
Very nice work.
