Keep working, this actually isn't too bad. The only thing that lets it down majorly is the over saturated poor quality scan.

I'm glad you listened to my advice on the border :)

Don't neglect the sketch threads, they're so much fun and you get far more exposure and help.

I'll see the comment tomorrow then Andreea enjoy your sleep

I think adding more dark tones would really bring it to life, but It looks like you might have had some but they were lost in scanning Be careful not to lose too much of the dark when adjusting the contrast.

Mmm lets kill my scanner! lol..
Thanks for commenting KPet

ok so face anatomy is KILLEr...big thumbup on that:)
the hands look maybe a bit too stiff...and too fat
the fingers are too roughly made
not too much to crit here actually:)...youre pretty good with babies:p
Juro has a good idea with the sketch threads...you'll get even more help and exposure there...from people who may know more than us guys who comment:)
and indeed...sorry to say...but...YOUR SCANNER IS CRAPPY
i dunno if u tend to adjust levels or thats just the way it comes out...but im sure u did some finer dark and shaded areas that i cant see here...:(its a pitty...
anywayz:)....progress again...listen to Juro he knows what he's saying;)

Hmm, not bad. What seems to be the problem, though, is the shading. I don't know if the scanner ate some of the pencil strokes, but either way this could be improved.
  • First of all, there is very little variation in the values. Try to use different tones of black / grey.
  • Second, the way you shade is harsh. Try more neat hatching, make the skin look softer. For example, you can try using the side of the pencil, not the tip. You know, tilt it.
Keep drawing!

 03/13/06 @346

the scanner killed it :'( i swear....lol..

and im not tilting the pencil thats how i started.....
tilting is bad .. seriosuly... i like the way diane told me to do it .. lol..
It's become a habit now lol

Thanks for commenting Jane appreciate it and voting..

Your work shows progress indeed. I like the face. I'm not someone who draws or paints so I can't help technically but you have been getting good advise from those who excel at it. Listen and learn from what they have to say and keep practicing. I agree with Glenn's (Juro) earlier comments. Take your time, don't rush to produce quantity, as quality will always be the desired result. Keep up the work!!

Avatar bakatron

 03/23/06 @402

well you definitely are getting better. a lot of comments on this but i am going to advise you to use your wrist to balance your strokes rather than your index finger. if you can use more elbow. create bigger more fluid strokes.

you'll get better that way

Avatar venomsblood

 03/25/06 @103

:pDreamShadow lol
Thanks for the advice Bakatron

Avatar Cigaro

 03/27/06 @563

i always use the wrist...be careful not to smudge the surface with pecils though:)
if you draw with your right hand, start the drawing from the left side so you wont smudge
im a left-hand so i do it backwards:p

Avatar venomsblood

 03/28/06 @373

great work! love the face.

body could use some similar shading.

unfortunately for the bad scanner its hard to tell what the shading looks like... :-/

anyway, keep trying! thats the only way to learn.

Eh. I know everything I say will probably already have been said here? But I dont feel like reading through all the crits.
Definately bring some darker tones into your work, they all consistently seem to be light, I think I saw you you say you'll add that. It will make a big difference.
Hard to tell due to scan, but Id say when youve got something like this in front of you, spend another hour on it, darkening it, refining, ect.
Keep trying you'll just get better and better!
See you around, thanks for your comment.
I'm sending you a pm too,
Sami
